Class Descriptions & Levels
Creative Movement
Ages 3-5 years
Creative Movement is the perfect class for a young dancer who loves to move! Dancers will enjoy dancing with friends while learning the structure of a class, how to take turns, and learning dance terms and steps. Dancers will learn to use each part of their body while increasing their coordination, balance, growing strong muscles and exercising their imaginations! This program includes performing in Art in Motion. If dancers would like to audition for our other performances they may do so for an additional fee.
Intro to Dance
Ages 5-7 years
Young dancers will love this combination class! Dancers are introduced to the foundations of classical ballet technique, while building strength, coordination and confidence. In addition to ballet, dancers will begin learning the fundamental steps of jazz and contemporary dance which will enhance their musicality and artistic development. Students do not need prior dance experience to join Intro to Dance. This program includes performing in Art in Motion. If dancers would like to audition for our other performances they may do so for an additional fee.
Intro to Dance
7-9 years
This is a wonderful program for dancers who are just beginning their dance journey or who want to dance but also have other activities. Dancers will begin their introduction to more formalized ballet including proper alignment, technique and etiquette. Additionally they will learn the fundamentals of jazz and contemporary dance which will advance their coordination, musicality, ability to learn choreography and increase their confidence. This program includes performing in Art in Motion. If dancers would like to audition for our other performances they may do so for an additional fee.
Hip Hop
OPEN Level
This high energy, upbeat, dynamic and fun class is great for dancers of all ages! Students will learn movement from this urban dance style that will increase their coordination, stamina, and strength while learning to express themselves through movement and music. This program includes performing in Art in Motion.
Tap
OPEN Level
This fun, high energy class is great for dancers of all ages! Dancers will explore steps making rhythms in time with the music while learning the art of performance. This program includes performing in Art in Motion.
Intro to Level 1
7-9 years with teacher recommendation or new student evaluation
This twice a week program is for dancers who are ready to take their dancing to the next level. Teacher recommendation or a student evaluation for new dancers is required for this level. Dancers will have Intro to Ballet 1 twice a week followed by a Level 1 Jazz class once a week and Level 1 Contemporary class once a week. This level prepares dancers who are interested in Level 1 Cecchetti Ballet training. In addition to Ballet, dancers train in jazz and contemporary, furthering their movement vocabulary, increasing their stamina, building strength, coordination, musicality, artistry and confidence. This program includes participation in all of our school performances: Nutcracker, Art in Motion and our Spring Production.
Level 1-7
Ages 9+ with teacher recommendation or new student evaluation
These programs begin with twice a week of ballet training along with jazz and modern/contemporary training. Depending on the track a dancer chooses other classes included in the program may include pre-pointe, pointe, character and classical variations. These programs include participation in all of our school performances: Nutcracker, Art in Motion and our Spring Production.
CONDITIONING
Level 2+
Our conditioning classes help dancers further learn about their body, how to asses what they need to improve and how to care for their body, preventing injury and advancing their proficiency in their dance training. This valuable cross-training tool helps increase the dancers knowledge of how the body works and how to care for it and creates awareness that will serve them throughout their dance training and into adulthood. Dancers will need certain items for this class: exercise mat, fusion ball, light and medium long therabands, theraband loops, lacrosse ball, foam roller and height appropriate stability ball.
Pre-Pointe 1 & 2
With teacher recommendation or new student evaluation
These classes are for dancers who take a minimum of 3 days of ballet classes per week along with teacher recommendation or a new student evaluation. This class is for aspiring ballet dancers who are planning on continuing their training and pursue pointe training. Dancers will focus on learning to articulate and strengthen the various parts of the feet while learning to properly align the leg bones with the feet. Part of this cirriculum is the renowned 4Pointe training that provides dancers with exercises to build strength, stability and understanding, resulting in a dancer that is not only becoming prepared for the rigors of pointe training, but also will have more proficiency in balance, jumps etc…
Pointe
With teacher recommendation or new student evaluation
This training is for dancers who take a minimum of 3 days of ballet classes per week with teacher recommendation or a new student evaluation. This class is for dancers who have advanced from pre-pointe and have been recommended to begin pointe training. Beginning pointe requires a minimum of 3 days of ballet per week, while advancing pointe classes will require more regular ballet and pointe throughout the week to build the proper strength and stamina to safely and proficiently dance en pointe.
Character
For dancers Level 2+
A selected borrowing of folk dance movements and styles that are essential for dancing the divertissements in story ballets. Dancers learn various gestures and styles that provide a portrayal of characters of a particular nationality. This is indispensable class for pre-professional dancers who have plans to pursue dance in a classical company.
Classical Variations
For dancers Level 2+
In this class dancers learn dances called variations from the classical ballet repertoire. Along with learning these variations, dancers choose a variation and practice it each week, getting feedback on what they need to work on. Dancers learn the value of clean transitions, weight transference, the technique of new steps as, how to portray the character of the variation and much more. This is indispensable class for pre-professional dancers who have plans to pursue dance in a classical company.
