6-8 Years of Age:
**Classes are determined by the dancers age as of September 1, 2014 as well as previous dance training.
*We highly recommend that at this age, dancers take both ballet and a movement class.
Below are descriptions for Ballet, Jazz, Contemporary, Break Dancing, Hip Hop, Tap and Strength/Flexibility/Conditioning classes.
Primary Ballet: *hair secured in a bun
Dancers 6-8 years of age are ready to begin learning the steps, technique and grace of classical ballet in a slightly more formal setting. Students that begin in our Primary Ballet program are much more technically prepared for formal ballet training as well as training in other genres of dance and excel more quickly.
Girls- CLASS LEOTARD INFO COMING SOON!! pink tights, pink ballet shoes,
Boys- black athletic shorts, above knee and not baggy, white fitted shirt/rash guard, black ballet shoes
Primary 1: 5*-6 years
*5 yr olds need 2 years of Creative Movement experience to be properly prepared for this level.
This class introduces dancers to a more formally structured classical training environment. They will learn the beginning steps and positions of classical ballet while also enjoying the joy of movement as we learn to polka and dance like various graceful characters or animals. Young dancers really embark on their technical and artistic training at this level.
Primary 2: 6-7 years
This class furthers the understanding, physical training and movement vocabulary of the first Primary level. Dancers continue to learn new steps and finer points of technique as they prepare to enter the Graded ballet levels. Dancers that take this level before entering Grade 1 ballet are better prepared physically, intellectually and artistically.
Primary 3: 7-9 yrs
*7 yr olds must have at least 1 year of Primary Ballet.
This level of Primary ballet properly prepares a beginning level students for the Graded Ballet classes. Students that take this level of ballet before beginning Grade 1 are much more prepared for the Graded levels of ballet instruction.
Jazz 1: *long hair secured in a ponytail or bun
Girls-any color leotard or fitted, modest top, any color leggings,
black jazz shoes (with elastic, no ties)
Boys- fitted shirt, shorts or pants, black jazz shoes (with elastic, no ties)
This is a great age for dancers to begin to further their movement vocabulary, musicality and coordination. We highly recommend that all of our dancers take a movement class in conjunction with their ballet class. This not only diversifies a dancer's experience, but also helps them to grow in technique and artistic ability more quickly.
Contemporary 1 (8+):
Any color fitted top, long shorts or pants, socks and tennis shoes, long hair secured in a pony tail or bun
Originally created by borrowing from classical, modern and jazz styles, Contemporary is a very popular style of dance that now draws from almost any style of dance. This mesh of styles allows the artist to express their ideas or sentiments by giving them the freedom to utilize almost any type of movement experience with which they can communicate. Dancers will both utilize the strength and control of their ballet training as well as an emphasis on utilization of the torso as a point of expression. Dancers will be introduced to contract-release, floor work , fall-recovery, rhythm, speed and direction. This is a fun, expressive form of dance that will further students movement vocabulary, coordination and artistic expression.
Break Dancing (6+):
Any color fitted top, long shorts or pants, socks and tennis shoes

Break Dancing originated on the streets of NYC in the early 1970s. Like ballet, break dancing began as an all boy style of dance but now has become popular amongst girls as well. This is a fun class for boys and girls alike to learn b-boy and b-girl skills such as freezes, top rock, down rock, power moves, and tutting.
Beginning Hip Hop (6+):
Any color fitted top, long shorts or pants, socks and tennis shoes

A broad conglomeration of artistic forms, originating from the South Bronx in the 1970’s, Hip Hop is a style of dance that has become popular all over the world. Sometimes fierce and hard and other times smooth and fluid, this dance style if fun for everyone. This is a fun and athletic dance style that challenges dancers to strengthen their upper body, sharpen and connect their movement as well as teaching them about dance as a community art form

Beginning Tap (5+):

This is a class for the young beginner. Dancers are taught the fundamental steps in a fun and high energy way that keeps them interested and engaged. Emphasis is placed on correct rhythm, form, sound, as well as on the development of elementary improvisational skills. Each student is also educated through discussion and the viewing of footage, in the history of the art form.
Strength/Flexibility/Conditioning 1/2 (8+):
Any color fitted top, long shorts or pants, socks and black tap shoes,

A class for dancers, athletes and more! This class teaches students about the importance of Flexibility and Strength training that translates to dance, athletics and every day life. Our bodies are created with bones, tendons, ligaments and MUSCLES! It is important to joint longevity, and quality of life that we train our muscles to do the job they were created to, and that is supporting our body’s structure of bones and ligaments as well as facilitating ease of movement. By training the muscles of the body including the smaller muscles around the joint and in the feet, we prevent injury and allow for better movement. This is our most “IN DEMAND” Adult and Intermediate/Advanced level student class and students who have taken this class cannot get enough. Find muscles you didn’t know you had, strengthen your body and find a new confidence and joy in life!
